Smart Ideas for
the New Recovery (???)
Here's
some food for thought on making the most of your investment in marketing
communications:
Beware of Hidden Mark-ups
When you're getting prices from web and print designers, ask them how much
commission they're getting from printers, web hosting companies and other
suppliers. You'll probably be surprised to discover a markup of anywhere
from 10 percent to several hundred percent.
We think that taking commissions is a cheesy practice and
we won't do it — we'd rather shop around for a good deal for you and
just charge you for a little time spent getting you the best for your
money.
Avoiding the Dot-Bust Trap
We're still getting inquiries from companies which want to develop high-end,
full-featured e-commerce sites, but haven't done their homework. What
homework? Modeling sales and revenue forecasts, figuring out infrastructure
costs for processing and shipping orders … all the necessary elements for
figuring out whether investing in web development is a good business decision. If
you need help getting to the numbers that support a go/no-go decision, we
can help. And we're glad to because we want to be part of your
success.
The Economy of Templates
You want a well-designed look to all your business communications,
but using a designer all the time isn't in your budget. What
do do? Many business communications, both print and web, are
good candidates for the template approach. You hire a designer
to create a template, and then you add your content to it for each
project. For presentations, we'll develop a top-notch template
in PowerPoint for you and optimize it for either screen or print delivery. For
print documents, we can produce templates for you in a variety of
software, including Word, Quark, PageMaker, and Acrobat. And
for websites, we can design page templates for you in FrontPage.
Designing for Economical Printing
Some designs can look great but turn into cost nightmares at the printer. If
you really, really want to pay for two color separation films and two PMS colors
on press for every new business card order, that's fine. However, we're
pretty sure that many of you would rather have a business card design that
lends itself to pre-printed shells to which names and numbers can be added
in standard black ink at a much lower cost.
